Mary Kate is the owner and principal creative mind at MKIllustrations. She has been illustrating the human body for the past 23 years and works with a diverse set of clients including those in the publishing, research, medical, pharmaceutical and biotech worlds. Some of her work can be found in medical journals, patient education materials, textbooks and internal education and sales rep materials.
Mary Kate received her undergraduate degree in studio art, with a focus on painting and figure drawing, from Tulane University. She received a Masters of Science in Medical Illustration from Augusta University (formerly the Medical College of Georgia) in 2003. The graduate program followed a rigorous curriculum of science and illustration courses, including gross anatomy with cadaver lab, neuroanatomy, histology, embryology, pathology, surgical observation, surgical techniques, as well as traditional and digital illustration courses. Mary Kate is a board certified medical illustrator (CMI), which involves taking a written exam and portfolio review and requires ongoing continuing education. She is a member of the Association of Medical Illustrators and sits on the Board of Certification for Medical Illustrators
